Jewell: Learning About Players More Important Than Results Sat 04th Aug 2012 09:52 Blues boss Paul Jewell believes finding out about players is more important than results during pre-season. Town face West Ham at Portman Road in their only home friendly this afternoon (KO 3pm). |
Southend 2-1 Town Tue 31st Jul 2012 21:55 Town fell to their second pre-season defeat in two games as early goals saw Southend to a 2-1 victory at Roots Hall. Kane Ferdinand had already spurned one opportunity when he opened the scoring in the sixth minute, the Republic of Ireland U19 international heading in the second off Luke Chambers’s knee five minutes later. The Blues’ reply was a Bryan Gunn-esque own goal from Mark Phillips after the break. |
Kourouma in Squad for Luton Fri 27th Jul 2012 13:06 French-Guinean midfielder Cheick Kourouma has been named in the squad for Saturday’s pre-season friendly at Luton Town (KO 3pm). The former Sochaux, Real Zaragoza and Genoa man, who celebrates his 20th birthday today, has agreed a contract with the Blues but has so far been unable to put pen to paper due to red tape relating to his former clubs. |
Town Announce Squad Numbers Thu 26th Jul 2012 11:25 New keeper Scott Loach has been handed the Blues' number one shirt for the 2012/13 season. New right-back Elliott Hewitt has been given number two, Luke Chambers number four and Tottenham loanee Massimo Luongo 15. |
Jewell Very Impressed By Hewitt Thu 12th Jul 2012 07:00 Blues boss Paul Jewell says new signing Elliott Hewitt impressed him a great deal when he watched him in action for Macclesfield and the Welsh U21s last season. The 18-year-old, who is recovering from hip operations he underwent while with the Silkmen, signed a three-year contract at the end of May after moving for an initial £250,000 fee. |
Town Travel to Doncaster Without Leadbitter Fri 27th Apr 2012 12:54 Town travelled to Doncaster this afternoon for their final game of the season without former skipper Grant Leadbitter, who has decided not to remain at Portman Road after his contract is up at the end of the season. The Blues were already short of midfielders for their lunchtime clash with relegated Rovers (KO 12.30pm) with Luke Hyam injured, Lee Bowyer released and Lee Martin and Ryan Stevenson both having missed training due to injuries this week. Youngsters Byron Lawrence and Joe Whight have both made the trip. |
Town 0-3 Millwall Sat 21st Apr 2012 17:07 Two goals from Andy Keogh and one from former Blue Liam Trotter saw Millwall to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Town in Portman Road’s final game of the season. Keogh put the Lions ahead after three minutes, old boy Trotter added the second just after the hour mark, then, after Grant Leadbitter had had a penalty saved, Keogh netted the third late on. |
Hyam and Martin to Miss Millwall Fri 20th Apr 2012 14:11 Midfielders Luke Hyam and Lee Martin are both expected to miss Saturday’s home game against Millwall having picked up niggles in training. Better news for Blues boss Paul Jewell, who is considering including 16-year-old Byron Lawrence as a sub, is that Richard Wright doesn’t require an operation on his knee problem, while Jimmy Bullard was back in training this morning. |
Crystal Palace 1-1 Town Sat 14th Apr 2012 17:16 Jason Scotland scored his eighth goal of the season as Town drew 1-1 at Crystal Palace. The Blues dominated the first half but the Eagles were in front at the break via on-loan Norwich striker Chris Martin, Scotland equalising in the second half. |
